THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of other metals, usually copper. Silver jewellery marked with a 925 is sterling silver jewellery that has been certified to contain 92.5% silver content.
Sterling silver tarnishes over time due to exposure to oxygen and sulphur, causing discoloration which may make it appear dirty or blackened.
With care, tarnishing and oxidisation can be delayed. If worn often, the oils in skin will naturally 'polish' the silver and keep it tarnish-free.
Avoid exposing the silver to household cleaning chemicals, perfumes or lotion.
Keeping the jewellery in individual airtight bags will minimise the discolouration over time and stop the pieces from scratching each other.
